Atletico Madrid Should Handle Depor Comfortably at Home, and All Three Models Agree

Look at Depor's table position and you see a decent newly settled side sitting eighth, hard to beat and full of fight. All three of our models see something different: a team that draws its way through the season while facing a side that has quietly turned wins into a habit.

Atletico Madrid come in with 7 wins from 9, a +11 goal difference and 22 points. Depor have 2 wins, 5 draws and 11 points. That gap is not a matter of luck. Last Friday Depor led Levante, missed a golden chance to make it 2-0 and a late equaliser cost them two points. That pattern, almost winning and settling for a draw, is exactly why the models are so firm.

Atletico are also in rhythm. They scraped past Espanyol 1-0 with a late Baena strike on Saturday, then drew 1-1 in Stuttgart on Tuesday in the Champions League. That is a busy week, with only two days to recover, so some fatigue is possible. Even so, the models see enough quality and depth in Simeone's squad to manage it, especially at home.

KEY MATCH FACTORS

- Atletico have won 7 of 9 league games, while Depor have won only 2.
- Goal difference: +11 for Atletico against +1 for Depor.
- Depor have drawn 5 times this season and are winless in their last 5.
- Atletico have taken 4 wins and a draw from their last 5 matches across competitions.
- The only recent meeting, a Copa del Rey tie in January, ended 1-0 to Atletico, who also won the four older ones listed.

The models agree on the direction and on the confidence. Depor can frustrate teams and may hit on the counter through Yeremay, but the gap in consistency and finishing points to a home win. The only real doubt is whether Atletico's short turnaround after Stuttgart costs them sharpness, and none of our models think it changes the verdict.

Atletico Madrid win: home wins and goal difference decide it

The numbers that matter here are about home dominance and scoring efficiency. Atletico's home record is a strong driver in my model, and their season shows 19 goals for and 8 against, a +11 difference. Depor sit at 13 for and 12 against, a +1 difference, which is the profile of a side that rarely loses and rarely wins by a margin.

That shape is exactly why Depor have 5 draws in 9. They concede enough to be vulnerable and score just enough to stay in games, but they do not close them out. Their last five, three draws and two defeats, confirm it.

Atletico's last five give 4 wins and a draw, including a 1-0 at Espanyol and a 2-0 over Manchester United. They defend tightly, and that is what makes a draw unlikely: their conceded rate is low, so Depor cannot rely on a single lucky goal.

The only caution is the schedule, with the Stuttgart trip only a couple of days before this match. Still, the evidence favours a home win with high confidence.

Atletico Madrid win: 74.9% says the favourite delivers

Let's be blunt: when my model puts Atletico Madrid at 74.9%, it is not flattering them, it is describing the gap. Depor sit at 15.2% and the draw at 9.9%. That draw number is the most telling one. Depor draw a lot, yet the model still sees a stalemate as a long shot here, because Atletico's ability to grind out a result is worth far more than Depor's ability to avoid defeat.

The market's lean is clear as well. The implied pull toward the visitor is weak, and the non-favourite's chance is small enough that backing Depor means paying for hope. Hope is not an edge.

The uncomfortable truth is that Depor's resilience gets mistaken for competitiveness. Avoiding a loss against a mid-table side is one thing. Doing it away at an Atletico side that wins when it is not even playing well, as the last-minute Baena winner showed, is another.

I back the home win with high confidence. If you want romance, watch Yeremay. If you want a pick, the numbers have already made it.

Atletico Madrid to win: the gap on the table is huge

Honestly, this one looks pretty simple to me. Atletico have 22 points and Depor have 11, so they are literally twice as far ahead. When I watch Atletico, they might not always be pretty, but they find a way. The Espanyol game is the perfect example: not great for 89 minutes, then Baena hits one into the top corner and that is three points.

Depor are a likeable team, no doubt. Yeremay is a joy to watch, and against Levante they were close to winning. But they keep stumbling at the finish, and that is where their draws come from. Winning only 2 of 9 tells the story.

Atletico at home are a different animal too. Their points gap over Depor is the biggest thing for me, and playing in front of their own fans only adds to it.

So I am going with an Atletico win, and I feel very good about it. Midweek in Europe could leave some legs heavy, but their squad is deep enough to cover it.
