Remo vs Botafogo Prediction: Models Split on Brasileiro Round 33 Clash

Round 33 of the Brasileiro brings a fixture where nobody agrees on what happens next. Remo, 26 points and deep in the relegation fight, host Botafogo, who sit on 39 but arrive on a rough run. Our three models look at the same match and reach different conclusions.

The case for Botafogo is built on the table. They have 10 wins to Remo's 5, a goal difference of -7 against -16, and 13 points of separation. But they come in bruised after a 3-0 defeat at Internacional, part of a run of one win, one draw and three losses in their last five.

The case for Remo is quieter. They are winless in their last five, but drew three of them and lost only 1-0 at Cruzeiro, a game where they created enough to deserve more. They also won 2-1 against this very opponent back in May. One model reads that resilience as a real edge, and the gap between the top two outcomes in the numbers is thin.

KEY MATCH FACTORS

- Table gap: Botafogo have 39 points against Remo's 26, a 13-point difference.
- Botafogo's form: just one win in five, and a heavy 3-0 loss last Saturday.
- Remo's stubbornness: three draws and a narrow 1-0 loss in their last five.
- Goals: Botafogo have scored 44 and conceded 51; Remo have scored 34 and conceded 50.
- Head-to-head: Remo won 2-1 in their most recent meeting in May.

So we have a mid-table side leaking confidence against a relegation-threatened team that rarely loses by much. The three predictions below pull in different directions, and that tension is exactly what makes this one worth a closer look.

Remo hold a slight edge at home over Botafogo

The numbers I trust point to a narrow Remo advantage, and I want to be clear it is narrow. My model puts Remo at 39.1%, Botafogo at 31.3% and the draw at 29.5%. This is a lean, not a statement.

The key inputs are the visitor's away wins, goals scored and goals conceded on the road. Botafogo's season totals of 44 scored and 51 conceded describe a side that leaks as much as it creates, and that profile tends to travel poorly. Away, those weaknesses get exposed more than the 39-point total suggests.

Remo's own record is poor, 34 scored and 50 conceded, but their recent results show a team that is hard to beat: three draws and a 1-0 defeat in five. Botafogo, by contrast, conceded three in their last outing and have taken one win from five. Add the 2-1 Remo win in May and the home side's tight defensive shape becomes a credible route to a result. Still, with the draw so close, I would not call this anything more than a marginal edge.

Botafogo edge a near-even three-way split

Let's be blunt: this is not a match the numbers can crack open. My model gives Remo 36.0%, the draw 27.9% and Botafogo 36.1%. Yes, that is a 0.1-point gap between the two sides. Anyone telling you they have a strong read here is selling something.

So why Botafogo at all? The model leans on the gap between the visitor's profile and the home side's, and on how close the draw sits to the away outcome. Those differences tip the balance by the thinnest margin imaginable. It's the kind of edge that gets erased by one deflected shot or one referee decision.

The draw at 27.9% is far from dead either. If you want the uncomfortable truth, the safest statement I can make is that three outcomes are all live and none deserves your confidence. My lean is Botafogo, my conviction is low, and the honest label on this pick is a coin flip with a slight tilt. Treat it accordingly.

Botafogo should win away at Remo

For me this one is pretty clear from what you can see. Botafogo are simply the better team on the table: 39 points against Remo's 26, ten wins against five. That's a big gap and it shows in how the season has gone.

Yes, last week's 3-0 loss at Internacional looked ugly, and they've only won once in five. But even in that run they beat Chapecoense and drew at Coritiba, so they're not collapsing. Remo, meanwhile, haven't won in five. Lots of draws, which is respectable, but when you're fighting relegation draws don't get you very far.

What I like about Botafogo is that their points as visitors and their overall points total both point the same way: this is a side that collects results more often than Remo do. Remo did beat them in May, so I wouldn't call it a lock, and a draw is possible. But if I have to pick, I'm backing the visitors to bounce back and take the three points.
